A manly movie. Non-stop action from start to finish. Enjoyed the movie. Statham was his usual self. Meaning, he was great. Decent story line. Great shooting & fighting sequences. All-n-all I thought it was a good action film.

Diesel Lion Black Leather Bomber Jacket

I finally found a nice leather jacket that fits me just about perfect. It's from Diesel. I paid less that $500 for it so I pretty much won't be buying any other big ticket item this year. I got the black of course but they do offer it in brown leather or even in a green leather which looks pretty nice as well. It's a soft leather. Its got "Knit ribbed cuffs" which is what I wanted in a leather jacket. Who knows, maybe one day I can purchase an modern electric bike & this will be my go to jacket whenever I ride the bike.

Recently bought the United We Stand Loafer by Kenneth Cole New York. Love them! Comfort is very good as they are leather loafers. Why is the comfort good? See the bottom illustration to find out. The shoes retail for $198 but I used a $50 off coupon that was sent to me by the brand. Next in line, perhaps if I'm so lucky to be able to buy a pair of loafers from Ferragamo, Tods, Emporio Armani, or Dolce & Gabbana.

It amazes me how little the 911 changes w/ every design update but still manages to look refreshed & that much better than its predecessor model. I want this car so bad. I can only hope that one day I can become a proud owner of a 911 model.

Tacone Replaced Subway

Now my go to place for a quick bite to eat during lunch is Tacone. I've tried their

"Kickin' Fried Chicken" -Liked it!

"Greek wrap" - Liked it as well!

"Mariner wrap" - Liked it the first time around only as the fish hasn't had the same fresh taste since!

"bbq chicken quesadilla" - Have gotten it 3 times now & it has not disappointed.

You get a side of chips w/ every wrap.

Although the best wraps I've had have been from Judi's Delicatessen in Bev Hills I'd say Tacone is certainly a good eatery for good, fresh, fulfilling wraps. And they're a franchise so you've got many locations. I like it!

Usually people my age (27) join gyms or if you have enough money you pay a trainer to stay fit. Me, I play basketball. I try to play at least 5 days a week, 1-2 hours a day. It brings me joy, happiness, & feel good emotions. It's the sport I've been playing since a young child. Unfortunately for me it seems like I'm limited in many things. I'm like Bradley Cooper in the film "limitless" only the opposite. When it comes to basketball I'm limited in how much jumping & running I can do because I easily get blisters on my feet. Even using double socks didn't help me out that much. But no more! Ever since I bought, or should I say/write "invested" in my feet by purchasing the Nike Jordan "Fly Wades" the cautious jumping & running is a thing of the past. These shoes are amazing! I paid a little under $100 for the pair but worth every penny. Not only are they comfortable but they have great support & really protect all parts of your feet. Shoes are just amazing. Good quality basketball shoes which was exactly what I was looking for. I had tried on the Kobe's & the Lebrons & other fancy shoes but these really did it for me. After trying them on for the first time & feeling that comfort I knew I had to get them. So there you go... If you are in need of a good pair of basketball shoes then get these. You won't regret it. They offer them in different color combinations but I got the ones in the photos. I love these shoes!

Recently watched it & thought it was really funny. I am an Adam Sandler fan so I tend to always like his films but this one was top notch funny. Couple years old & finally got around to watching it.

Simple story line.
Per imdb "An Israeli Special Forces Soldier fakes his death so he can re-emerge in New York City as a hair stylist."

Always love the fact that Mr. Sandler will almost always put in his close friends. Talk about not forgetting his friends.

I recommend it if you want a good laugh.

Zohan was awesome but Rob Schneider's character & his buddies in the film where my favorite though.

Been there a couple times. Didn't realize how expensive it's. I didn't realize it was expensive because the first time I had their famous "French Dip Sandwich" I didn't pay. But the second time around I did pay which made me realize that it's not cheap at all to eat at Philippe's.

Certainly worth the price of the sandwich as I paid a total of $12 for their "French Dip Sandwich" plus a side corn chowder soup. A 2 item lunch for $12 can add up quickly if it's on a daily basis.

Now, both items were delicious. Will it blow you away when you are happily enjoying the sandwich? Hmmm... I don't think so. It's good stuff. Certainly felt full once I finished my lunch but I couldn't stop thinking about the price. I know of a different place that sells roast beef sandwich's that are just as good & fulfilling for under $4.

I would recommend it though if you are around downtown & looking for a spot to get a fulfilling lunch.

Stopped by Babycakes NYC not too long ago & tried a couple of their cookie sandwiches which were heavenly. Every single bite I took made me want to take on the next bite. You can really taste the quality in their ingredients. Of course stopped by their Downtown LA location during lunch. Location is a bit rough so I would visit during the day then at night. Pricey? YES! Worth it? 100% YES! Life is short so why not indulge in something sweet that will give you such satisfaction.

Johnnies New York Pizza. Its soooo good. I love their pepperoni pizza as well as their spinach pizza. Their pizzas are not thick nor thin. Their just right. Greasy, yes but what pizza isn't. The taste is just so fantastic that I just want to keep eating it. Now its like I have to eat their pizza at least once a week. Unfortunately this week it didn't happen though. They seem to have various locations so check them out. They're not fancy, at least not the one I go to since it's located in a cafeteria full of other restaurants but where they do shine is in their ingredients hence their tasty pizzas which is why they won me over. I of course eat at the once located downtown on 5th & Flower where they've never disappointed.

Had their GRILLED CHICkEn Panini recently for lunch. Loved ever bit of it. Plus it came w/ a side salad. It was sooooooo good. The salad was really fresh too. Definitely will have some of their food again. A bit pricey but certainly worth it as you can taste the quality in their ingredients. It was such a fulfilling lunch.

Had their crab noodles which were ehhh ok. Was expecting a better taste especially for the price. Would certainly give it another chance though. Luckily I didn't have to pay that day as I had won a bet. It's located in "The Golden Triangle" of Beverly Hills so you can't beat the location & the inside of the restaurant is pretty nice. It's pretty pricey for the average joe but if you've got deep pockets then shelling out $100 for a meal shouldn't distress you.

I ordered the TrEnné which was ok. Certainly not their best plate on the menu though. I tried the sausage pizza as well & their portobello fries which were just amazing. Finished off the night by ordering the Le Grand Macaron which was really good & just the right size.

Not pricey by any stretch but certainly not cheap either.

Service was certainly good. Decor inside is just spectacular. Size of the restaurant is pretty amazing.

The only downsize of Bottega Louie is how loud the place gets. You really, really, really have to scream to the person you are eating with because it's so loud inside.

All & all it's certainly worth trying. Hopefully I go back soon to try their lunch menu.

If ever in downtown (L.A.) & would like to know what it felt like to live in the 80's then step into the Bonaventure Hotel. Every time I step into their lobby area it just makes me feel like I'm living in the 80's. & I don't think that is a bad thing at all. Especially for someone like me that loves everything 80's. Maybe it's just me but it might be the decor of the lobby that makes me feel like that when I'm in there. I love the Westin Bonaventure in every way & hope that it doesn't change any time soon. It's such a great downtown LA landmark.

I've tried the Bonaventure Brewing Company restaurant which serves an AMAZING steak. It was perfect in every way.

I've also tried their lunch from the bar that is at the center of the Hotel. Ordered a pepperoni pizza which was very tasty. Actually, it's probably one of the best pepperoni pizza's that I have ever tried.

Hopefully in the near future I can give the "L.A. Prime, a New York Steakhouse" restaurant a try as it has panoramic views of all of downtown L.A. because it does a 360 degree spin.

Now, if I were to pair a song with my experience when going to the Bonaventure it would be Animotion's Obsession. How can one not the love 80's!

Run Flats

If your like me & have run flat tires on your car then you must have the "peace of mind" that comes w/ the ownership of run-flats. Well, at least when it comes to getting a flat tire. I needed 2 new tires for the front of my auto & I was set on getting run-flats but then the people over at the tire place where I went recommended just regular tires. So I went w/ regular tires. They asked me "how many times have I gotten a flat?" & I told them only once in all of my 8 years of driving. & that one time was my fault. So technically, zero. Their point was that you really do just need regular tires. So, if you own run flats & are looking to purchase some new tires any time soon go w/ regular tires because they're just as good as run-flats & you'll save huge which is always a plus on my book. If you want to watch a good television show these days then one should watch Rescue Me. Boy, is that a great TV show. At least, I think it's. Terrific writing as it sometimes gets deep while others times really making you laugh. Denis Leary does just a fantastic job playing the role of a NY Fire Fighter along w/ his great cast. One of the few shoes I watch on television. Well, technically, I watch it on hulu so if you don't have cable, which I think you don't need, other than to watch sports games then watch it on hulu which is great if you ask me.

Hamburger Haven in WeHo---Thought the burger was ok. Was expecting an amazing burger. Fries were ok. Nothing special about the fries. In-And-Out is way better. I've had better burgers.

Joey's Smoking BBQ in Manhattan Beach---Thought the ribs were good. I'm a fan of corn bread but Joye's cornbread was ok. Again, I've had better corn bread. BBQ chicken was tender. Beans were tangy & sweet. They're thick ice-tea was definitely thick. Probably the thickest ice tea I've had in my whole entire life. BBQ could have definitely have had a better kick to it. All in all I'd say it was decent BBQ.

Pinks hot dogs in Hollywood-Although it's a famous place, their dogs are ok. Nothing special about the taste of their hot dogs. I've had much better chili dogs. I'll take Wienerschnitzel over Pinks any day.

Jimena Navarrete

For the past 3 years or so I've watched the Miss Universe pageant very closely but this year the winner really caught my attention. Jimena Navarrete is probably one of the most beautiful women I have ever laid my eyes on. I can't imagine how strikingly beautiful she must be face to face. To me women are the true beauty of this earth. Although cars are great, mother nature is amazing, women to me are truly heaven on earth. Jimena navarrete is just astoundingly beautiful to me. Well deserved for Miss Mexico. From the first time I saw her on television I knew she had to take the crown home for 2010. Although I envy guys who own Ferrari's & Porsche's I think the guy who takes the cake is Jimena Navarrete's boyfriend. He is the luckies guy in the world to me right now. I seriously can't stop thinking about this women but I'm sure in a few days it'll pass. I wish her the best of luck in everything she does in her upcoming adventures/experiences.

Porsche 918 Spyder & BMW's Vision Efficient Dynamics

I thought the Ferrari 458 was my dream car but out of nowhere the Porsche 918 Spyder comes along. Not only have I been a Porsche fan for a long time & hope 1 day I am lucky enough to buy one but to see a Porsche car that is truly out of this world is just pure awesomeness. Hybrid, sporty, electric motors, 500+ HP, an estimated 70+ mpg. Although it's a concept I keep hearing & reading that because it was well received by everyone it looks like it will be built. I wish I had the funds to fund such an amazing machine. Everything about it is just amazing to me.

Although a concept that we will probably not see any time soon it still excites me about what the future will bring. Love BMW. Love it!

If there is something I'am proud of it's my Ipod collection. There are many reasons why but really it has to be my 80's playlist. Not only is the 80's my favorite genre but it just doesn't get any better if you ask me. I will never get tired of listening to my 80's tracks. Some more than others of course. It's so tough to choose a favorite as there are so many great tracks coming from the 80's era but one that is & will always be at the top of my list is Caribbean Queen by Billy Ocean. Like many 80's songs it's got a great beat to it along w/ some sweet saxophone. How can you not love this song...

Taste on Melrose

This is my first restaurant, eatery, bistro, cafe, etc. review & certainly not my last. Went to Taste w/ my co-workers. It's located in WeHo right on Melrose. It's a small place but certainly big in delivering fine food. I ordered pork chops w/ some pasta. I thought it was ok. Certainly could have used more "taste" but I was certainly able to taste the quality in my dish. Thankfully my co-workers decided to order some desert & were willing to share. I think it was either the ice cream sandwich or the chocolate decadence that I tried. Whichever it was it was amazingly good. Every time I put some of that chocolate in my mouth it was heaven. Taste, I think, would be a nice place to go w/ good friends, someone visiting from out of town or your girlfriend. Not many tables on the inside but no worries as there are also tables on the outside. Its got a very cozy feel to it along w/ the sophistication you would want in a restaurant. Even though I'm not a big drinker I think I had 3 glasses of red wine that night. I hope to go back soon. Maybe I'll go for lunch or something to see how their lunch menu is. I'm sure it's just as tasty as their dinner menu. As far as prices go it's certainly not cheap but not too expensive either. I'm a big believer that you get what you pay & at taste you certainly get your moneys worth. Fortunately, I was treated that night so didn't really get to see what the total was as it was 6 of us that night. Lastly, as far as service goes I would give it an A as our waitress was extremely courteous & very pleasant. Give Taste a taste as I'm sure your taste buds will thank you.

Leather Goody

A couple of months ago I purchased some leather driving gloves. The only reason I wanted to buy them was because I didn't own a pair of any type of gloves so I decided to give it a go on some BMW driving gloves. To my surprise it has been a delight using them almost every time I drive. Although I would have preferred faux leather, because I don't like the fact that leather comes from animals, the gloves feel very nice when I put them on. Their size is small & they fit me perfectly. It's a soft leather w/ a small BMW logo on each one of them. If you're like me & love to really grip the road then you can't go wrong w/ some driving gloves like these. They cost me $40 at a BMW specialist shop.

If I were succumbed w/ a huge load of cash I would give some to charity, poor individual people out in the streets, my family & to places in the world where poverty is overwhelmingly high. I would probably also buy a couple of sporty cars, a decent condo, & lastly fill my wardrobe of Dolce & Gabbana. From shirts to shoes, all the way to suites. D&G has become a favorite of mine ever since I came across this incredible leather jacket I saw a few years ago while browsing my monthly subscription of GQ magazine. To me D&G really represents great style whether it be jeans or a shirt. If it's got a D&G tag then chances are it will have great cool modern style. Although I don't actually own anything D&G I still am a huge fan of the brand & who knows maybe that huge "wad" of cash is just waiting for me somewhere. Wisps & "The Gel"

What is a wisp? In simple terms it's a small, carry around, & quick disposable toothbrush. I recently discovered wisps & have to say that I think they are nice to have. Probably not the greatest product to safe guard your teeth but something that comes in handy when you feel your teeth are somewhat dirty & need a quick cleaning when out somewhere & not near a sink.

You can buy a 4 pack for under $5. Now, if only they can make the wisp 100% recyclable then we would have a true winning produce.

After many years of using hair gels I didn't really like I finally found one that I love & will stick with. Technically it's a pomade but it gets the job done just like a hair gel. It's called Axe Sleek Smooth & Sophisticated Look Shine Pomade. Not only does it NOT leave your hair all sticky or hard but it holds just as good as any hair gel I've tried plus it makes your hair look really smooth & sophisticated hence the name. I give it a 5 our 5 stars.

You can find it for under $8 which is not too shabby & if your like me who uses minimal gel/pomade each day then it should last your for a while. A nice product indeed.

Price is certainly high but like everything else you get what you pay & you are certainly getting quality shoes that I think should & will last you for many years. Tods also is another fantastic brand w/ great shoes followed by Salvatore Ferragamo. All 3 brands carry hefty prices so, like in my case, start saving up or hope that your stocks hit highs in order to one day purchase at least 1 pair then choose from one of the three. If I had the option to choose right now to go w/ 1 of the 3 I would probably choose a pair from Emporio Armani. But you simply can't go wrong w/ a pair from either Tods or Ferragamo.

Finally My First Car

It's not new. It's not a 2010 or 2011 model. Nor is it a fine tuned Porsche. But I'm extremely happy & grateful that I'am able to say that I own a BMW. It's 2007 BMW 335i Coupe. It's a fantastic car w/ fantastic lines. The design of the car strikes me every time I see it. It's beautiful & cool. Sporty yet sophisticated & timeless. It's an incredible machine w/ incredible German engineering. I love the car & look forward to many years of thrilling drives.

I cannot wait to see Tron 2 & Wall Street 2. I have high expectations for these 2 movies. I have a feeling that they won't disappoint. I've seen the first of each movie which were classic 80's movies. Tron w/ its magical cinematography & story line & Wall Street directed by Oliver Stone depicting insider trading at its best. It's amazing that both movies are older then 20 years now. Both came out out in the 80's which is when I was born, 1983 to be exact, & which music genre I just so happen to love the most. What's great is that Wall Street 2 will depict current times or at least the recent crash of the stock market while Tron 2 will be an amazing 3-D film experience as you can already tell just by looking at the trailer. Can't wait!

If there is one character on television at this very moment who I think is the Steve Mcqueen of our time it would certainly be Dr. Christian Troy from the FX network show Nip/Tuck.

Perhaps the toughness is not there but the style certainly is. If there is a character that I would want to be like or come close to being like it would hands down be Christian. Not because he's a Doctor or because he gets to have sex w/ every female he meets but because of his style.

The fitted collard shirts, the suites, the sunglasses, all make the character that much more alluring I think. And I guess it doesn't hurt to be handsome as well.

The show itself is a great one. One of my favorite ones. It has become somewhat of a dark show lately but changing it up is a good thing especially when you've been running for 6 seasons.

D&G Lambskin Leather Motorcycle Jacket

It's so tough to find the right leather jacket. This one from D & G is a great looking motorcycle leather jacket. It's not over done w/ buttons, belts, or pockets. It's both stylish & cool. Can be worn w/ jeans & go w/ the night-out on the town look or w/ a collard shirt & a tie for the office. This is probably one of the best looking ones out there. Price is up there at $1,595 but I'm a big believer that you get what you pay. This is probably another item that will be followed w/ compliments by females. But don't buy this item for the compliments. Buy it for yourself & to feel good about yourself & your style. I think a good fitted leather jacket should be a big part of your wardrobe. Personally, I'm still looking for mine.

Here is a great example of a leather jacket worn w/ the business attire. Photo is from the set of the upcoming movie of Wall Street 2 starring Shia L. Classic, cool, & professional all-in-one. When you shop for the leather jacket you should really try it out. Walk around w/ & really get a feel for it because chances are it will be a pricey item & you should be sure about your purchase as you don't want to have any regrets. Especially now where every single dollar counts.

2010 Genesis Coupe

I test drove the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe today & if there is 1 word that will describe this automotive machine it will be the word impressive. I test drove this car at Dodger Stadium today at a setup track & it was incredibly fun. This is something I wish I could do on a daily basis. I test drove both the in line 4 turbo & the 306hp 6 cylinder.

Thoughts:

Interior-well designed, comfortable, stylish, right there w/ Toyota quality, & the audio system has great sound.
Exterior-sporty, fun, very aerodynamic & cool.
Power-both the in line 4 turbo & 306hp 6 cylinder felt great but I will choose the 6 over the turbo any day. You can really feel the torque in the 6. You just want to go, go, & go. Exhaust note coming from it is sweeeeeettt.
Stability, handling, & grip-Awesome! Car handles incredible.

Overall, it's a great automobile. A nice sporty coupe w/ terrific body lines. Hyundai has really impressed me w/ this car. Fantastic job from Hyundai. I would certainly recommend it to people in their early to mid 20's looking for a great car that will not leave their pockets empty.

If you rarely receive compliments on the clothes you wear then you must buy a piece or 2 from Hickey. Whether it's a collard shirt or a jacket. This line of wear is both preppy but edgy which is the motto of the brand I believe. It's one of my favorite brands. These 2 sportscoats are sophistated & modern. Great colors. Price? Low to mid one hundreds. Up there in price but worth it if you ask me.

There is a possibility that this might be the car I purchase in less than 1 year (or so I hope). It will be the first official automobile that I will own. I will spend a fair amount of time observing it, focusing in on it, & really imagining myself in it at the LA auto show come November. It's not a Mercedes or a BMW but it's a true sports car & that is something I will really be looking for once I have the financial feasibility to purchase a new or used car.

If only I had enough money to purchase this amazing looking car. I would get this car in black w/ the nice options. I've built my car on mbusa.com and total comes to 65k. I've entered this number into my own excel automotive calculator & w/ a down payment of $10k after 6 years of paying such a car off @ $1069k a month I end up paying a total of $86500 after interest & taxes. OUCH... Worth every penny though if you ask me. I've never been a huge fan of MB but this car is just striking. I don't know if it's the front end, the interior, the l.e.d. lights or it might be a combination of all of that. I wish I met the designer of such a fantastic looking automobile.

I can probably afford a decent car right now even w/ my small salary that I currently earn but I would have to sacrifice everything else in my mellow life at the moment. But then I become one of those guys. One of those guys that just works for his beautiful car. & I really don't want to be one of those guys.

I'm 25 years old & it seems like everyone has had a chance to experience their purchase of their first car except for me. I guess I feel like that because I can't wait until that day comes. The day I wake up early, have a small breakfast, & head out to a dealership or two & test drive a car that I myself will proudly purchase. I feel like a kid who hasn't gone to Disneyland but know that one day it will happen. I will go to Disneyland. Its gotta happen. It just has to happen. God I can't wait. It's not just a car; it's a lifestyle

"You can always live in your car," goes the adage I've heard my whole life, "but you can't drive your house." It's an aphorism friends shove at you as you're signing up for 72 months of payments on a BMW you can't afford. Or to buck you up while you're opening a home equity line of credit so you can bail your '69 Camaro out of paint jail. But actually live out of the car? Come on, that's absurd.

At least that's what I thought until my wife — er, ex-wife — and I finally settled. She kept the house in Glendale, and I got a check. One of those inflated Southern California real estate checks that makes either a thick down payment on a new condo in Studio City or buys a super-luxury automobile. If I had bought the condo, this wouldn't be a story.

Here's my new home: It's a 2007 Bentley Arnage T. If I actually drive it, there's a twin-turbo-fortified 6.8-liter, OHV V8 under its hood that makes 500 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of peak torque at only 3,200 rpm. Bentley claims that when you use the six-speed automatic transmission to full effect, the T-model will thunder to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds and gallop along to a top speed of 179 mph. And it weighs 5,700 pounds.

It's the best combination of performance and four-bedroom, three-bath Tudor that I could imagine. Plus, the Bentley dealer had one in stock and it was only $271,000.

That's the most I've ever spent on a car. But the least I've ever spent on a home.

Home sweet leather-lined home

Getting comfortable in the Arnage T is easy. All the things that are made of plastic in an ordinary car like a Mercedes S-Class — the vents, the door pulls, the shifter gate — are made from polished metal in this British brute. Every wood surface is carefully matched and finished with the sort of luster usually only seen in Lemon Pledge commercials. And the diamond-quilted leather seats coddle any royal heinie with royal precision.

Let's not put too fine a point on this: No car's interior is better-appointed, better-looking or even better-smelling than that of the Bentley Arnage T. If you're going to live in a car, this is the car to live in.

There are basically two alternatives for sleeping in the Arnage. The first is reclining either the driver or front passenger seat all the way back. But the resulting surface isn't completely flat and my chiropractor is particularly adamant that I don't inflame my back's existing sublimations.

The other place to sleep is the rear seat, and that's where I've settled in. Lying lengthwise, the seat is nearly flat and I only have to slightly bend my leg to keep from kicking the door panels. Plus, the rear seats are electrically adjustable, which allows me to tune the sleeping surface for my tender back. The optional fold-down tables attached to the back of the front seats are both elegant and a great place for my alarm clock.

My one problem with sleeping is that I will occasionally find the seatbelt anchors sticking into my back. I'm thinking of having them removed.

I've grown particularly fond of the Bentley's ventilation system. If it's cold I'll leave the engine idling all night and use the rear controls to create a perfect snoozing temperature. The engine is so smooth and quiet, its idling never interrupts my slumber, plus the dehumidifier and pollen and dust screens in the ventilation system guarantee that I never wake up sneezing in the middle of the night.

Sure, leaving the engine idling all night might seem wasteful. But at least I'm not heating up a whole 3,000-square-foot house for just one person. So I'm doing my part for the environment.

Morning ritual

After a deep, restful sleep, I wake up in the Bentley to the ring of my alarm clock and the gentle hum of the engine. If it's a nice day, I open the hood and place my mug atop the warm engine. In just a few minutes I have water hot enough to brew tea. I was a coffee drinker before moving into the Arnage, but drinking coffee in a British car just seemed wrong. Earl Grey is my cup of choice now.

After that bracing cup of tea, I shave using the generously sized vanity mirror in the passenger's side visor. Even on mornings when the sun is yet to rise, this lit mirror is a perfect surface for the precision trimming of my beard. For some tough areas, though, I do find myself using the rearview mirror. And I've grown to love the way the aroma of Edge shaving gel mixes with the lustrous smell of the Bentley's leather. It smells like...prosperity.

If it's raining, I'll be showering outdoors. If not, I drive to the YMCA and use the facilities. I am, however, disappointed by the concierge service there.

Meals on wheels

With my trusty Weber kettle grille, there's really little reason for me to have more extensive kitchen facilities. I'm a big fan of Johnsonville Brats and nothing tastes better than their "Hot 'n Spicy" that's been cooked over an open flame next to an idling Bentley. And now that Grey Poupon is available in a squeeze bottle, what other condiments do I need?

The Bentley's elegantly appointed and beautifully carpeted trunk has become my pantry. There's plenty of room in there for a cooler and the trunk itself closes with a reassuring thunk that is as close to being automotive Tupperware as I've ever experienced. Hot dog buns stay fresh for weeks back there.

A civilized life

With Southern California's mild climate, I spend much of my days next to the Bentley reading and enjoying the sunshine. Then, alas, work intrudes.

Again, the optional tables built into the back of the front seats are invaluable. They provide a stable working surface, and let me open my laptop so the screen will be fully visible. When I need Internet connectivity, I've found parking next to public libraries and leaching off their open Wi-Fi networks is a godsend.

As a day ends and I look out over the Pacific Ocean from the public park where I've parked the Arnage, I feel as if this is the life I was meant to live. It's not a conventional life, but as any Bentley owner would tell you, a Bentley is not a conventional car.

The Asphalt Jungle: Means Streets

How can so many Angelenos afford to drive such amazing cars and eat?

I have this acquaintance--to safeguard his anonymity, I'll call him "Homer"--who drives a 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL500. This fact makes me more than a little envious of Homer. After all, the SL500 may well be the greatest aphrodisiac since the diamond-flavored Valentine's chocolate or the Lenny Kravitz backstage pass.

That said, I most definitely do not envy the price Homer has to pay to glide along in his SL500's rarefied cockpit. Each month, to cover his lease, insurance, and gas bills, Homer shells out more than $1800.

The thing is, Homer isn't rich. He inhabits a $735-a-month studio apartment in Burbank--a place so small that Verizon keeps trying to hang a pay phone inside. He wears cost-cutter suits that contain an alarmingly large percentage of unnatural fibers. And when he dines out, he's far more likely to drop into the local Red Lobster than to sup with Ashton and Demi at Spago.

Of course, you'd never know any of this if you saw Homer on the road. Out there, he's a master of the universe, ruling from the helm of one of the world's finest automobiles. Asked about this seeming lifestyle imbalance, Homer expressed himself eloquently: "You think I give a damn? C'mon. This is L.A. You either have a nice car here, or you are toast. I mean, I've had women beg me to take them out in this car."

Clearly, I was on to something. As anyone new to the city will tell you, the streets of L.A. are so awash with awesome automobiles that one's first reaction is to ask, "How did all these people get so bloody rich?" In truth, though, the parade of four-wheeled extravagance is largely an illusion--an example of life as Hollywood sound-stage facade. See, in this fair city appearances count. This, in itself, is not unique to L.A., of course. In New York, for example, it's possible to elevate one's status with any number of established hallmarks: a Burberrys trench coat, box seats at Lincoln Center, a gold-plated Mace dispenser. But in L.A.--that palm-lined jewel tied up in asphalt ribbons--the car is king. And many, it seems, will pay whatever it takes to ascend to the throne.

Also out on an automotive limb is "Bart," a 44-year-old computer-software developer. In most regards, Bart lives simply: modest house in Valencia, 20-inch Zenith, occasional weekend in Vegas. Open his garage door, though, and suddenly you'd think Bart has points in Microsoft Windows. On the right is an aging Chrysler LeBaron--"My chores car," Bart says. But on the left sits a blood-red 1988 Ferrari Testarossa. Purchase price, used: $91,500.

Spying this stunning piece of Italian sculpture in such a setting is somehow unsettling--like finding a Picasso nailed to the wall of a Holiday Inn. But Bart doesn't see it that way. "I used to live in Minnesota, and with the winters and ice and all, you can't have a nice car there. But I promised myself if I ever got a job in California, I'd buy a great car. I've always wanted a Ferrari. Besides, it sure doesn't make it any harder to meet women."

Ah, a common theme. In L.A., clearly, a cool car is nothing less than an essential element in the mating ritual--cost be damned. I ask Bart if he thought about the possible "fringe benefits" before digging deep to purchase his Ferrari.

"Yeah, I guess you could say I did," he says with a smile. "Until I got divorced three years ago, the money was supposed to go for a bake shop."
